Greylock:
Mount Greylock
is the highest mountain in Massachusetts and rises up out of the
foothills of the Berkshires here in Williamstown and provides the
background of my shop. In the 18th century ., Ephraim
Williams commanded a detachment of militia at Fort Massachusetts and
founded Williams College.
He named this
mountain Saddleback Mountain or Saddleball depending on where you
were looking at it from. Sometime in the middle of the 19th.Century
the name was changed to Mount Greylock, named for a famous Indian
war chief.
