Computer Viruses

E-mail Print PDF

With the constant threat of viruses attacking our computers one can never let their guard go down.  There are many good anti-virus software applications on the market today.  Two of the top contenders for combination packages for both antivirus and anti-spyware are Norton 2009 by Symantec, www.norton.com,  and McAfee Internet Security 2009, www.mcafee.com .  Both may be purchased either online or in local stores.

If one is looking for a free version of antivirus my recommendation would be Grisoft’s AVG, free.grisoft.com   Their free version does not slow down the computer as it works behind the scenes protecting against harmful viruses and spyware.

Another free and powerful tool is available at: www.malwarebytes.org

An important thing to remember, your computer must have only one anti-virus application installed and no others.  This also includes unactivated antivirus applications that may have come bundled with the system when you purchased the computer.  Prior to installing any software be sure to check the list of installed applications to see if any are already there.

Anti-spyware, on the other hand, can be installed on a computer that already has other ‘brands’ of anti-spyware software.  It is actually important to use more than one since non seem to be able to locate all of the various types of spyware out there.
