Please read below before you begin
the lessons...

Drawing is work, and work can be accomplished in an
easier fashion if one understands the what and why of what is
being done. Sounds silly and reasonable all at once, and
it is true too! When you draw a picture you are
really putting down lines on a paper. Lines are either
straight or curved. That's it. Are you able to print
the alphabet? If you can then you already know how to make
every straight line and every curved line that you'll ever need
to know. I like to think that we all learn the alphabet to
get us ready to learn how to draw! (Many reading teachers
may argue the point, but, hey, that's what I always thought when
I was growing up!) When I was an Art Teacher some of my
most successful lessons were Step-By-Step lessons. Many
people need a definite starting point from which to begin their
exploration of drawing. This may just be that point for
you!
I have three Step-By-Step Lessons finished so far for this Web Site.
Give them a try and let me know how you did. One is a lesson
on drawing a simple lighthouse that is up on a cliff. It
can be drawn with crayons, chalk, oil pastels, colored pencils,
even a felt-tip marker! (My favorite doodle tool!) The second
one is
on how to draw a simple tree, and the third consists of three
holiday candles, but you could easily draw just one to start with!
If you were to
ask me what I would suggest that you use, I would say:
Cray-pas (oil
pastels)
Medium Blue construction paper for the lighthouse,
Brown construction paper for the Tree...
Black construction paper for the candle lesson.
